EICC Ltd is Formed
A joint venture is established between Edinburgh District Council and Lothian & Edinburgh Enterprise to allow plans for the EICC to commence.
Construction Begins
An official Ground Breaking ceremony takes place and work begins on the EICC.
Topping Out Ceremony
The traditional ‘Topping Out’ ceremony marked the last beam being installed as the construction neared completion.
EICC Hosts 1st Event
EICC held its first ever conference when Sir Tom Farmer brought Kwik Fit’s Silver Jubilee to the venue.
Royal Opening of the EICC
EICC has received many Royal visitors since opening so it was only fitting that Her Majesty The Queen cut the ribbon to officially declare the opening of the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
EICC Hosts CHOGM
Her Majesty The Queen returned to the EICC as the Head of Commonwealth for the CHOGM conference. Nelson Mandela and many other Commonwealth Leaders were also in attendance at this prestigious occasion.
EICC Awarded with EFQM
The EICC continued to develop a reputation for quality standards throughout the 90s and into the millennium becoming the first conference venue in the world to win the coveted European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) Award.
Work Begins on EICC Expansion
The sustained success of the EICC created a demand for increased events space and construction on our most significant milestone to-date began.
EICC Expansion Opens
The new Atrium and Lennox Suite open for business - effectively doubling EICC’s capacity and allowing clients even more flexibility for their events.
First Event Held in Expanded EICC
The International Investigative Dermatology Conference 2013 became the first event to be held in the expanded EICC, bringing over 2,000 delegates.

After 18 years of operation we welcomed our millionth delegate during the European Space Agency's Living Planet event.
