EICC Live Online: Divine Reading with Daphne Loads

Free online talk with Q&A

Reading Is Bad For You!

How do you read? Drowning in neverending email? Rapidly devouring whodunnits, then immediately forgetting them? Perhaps you are seduced by clickbait or read the news and get depressed? Do you cherrypick political statements to find only what you want to hear, then suspiciously pick apart whatever the other side says? The ways we read today are often unhealthy. But there is another way. Medieval monks used to read slowly, with body, heart and soul. They called it Lectio Divina, and this ancient practice is being rediscovered by a new generation of readers. Find out how and try it for yourself.

Join Dr Daphne Loads, formerly of the University of Edinburgh, for some Divine Reading.

For the past 13 years, Dr Daphne Loads has been an academic developer in the Institute for Academic Development at the University of Edinburgh.

Author of a number of academic publications, she is currently writing a book about the possibility of reading poetry in other people’s languages.

Once you register you will be emailed details on how to access the talk.
