Ballet West – Giselle ou Les Wilis
Ballet West are delighted to return to the EICC with their brand-new production of Giselle ou Les Wilis.
Inspiration for the ballet, which was premiered in Paris 1841, came from two ghost stories - Victor Hugo's poem Phantoms and Heinrich Heine's On Germany. It has become the epitome of ballet romanticism and tells the story of a peasant girl named Giselle, who dies of a broken heart after discovering her lover is betrothed to another. The Wilis - a group of supernatural women who dance men to death - summon Giselle from her grave. They target her lover for death, but Giselle's great love frees him from their grasp.
Award-winning choreographer, Daniel F. Job, brings his unique style to this romantic ballet, sensitively adapting and adding to the original choreography of Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot. Giselle is a fascinating combination of exciting score, stunning classical dance and fiery drama.
The principal roles will be danced by Jonathan Barton, Natasha Watson and Uyu Hiromoto.
Tickets from £25.00
