Leadership Stream Theatre C: Adopting a Cloud First Approach

Disruption from the Covid-19 pandemic has changed the behaviour of government organisations, businesses and consumers across Scotland. Indeed, all of the major public cloud providers have reported significant increases, since the beginning of lockdown, in use and expenditure on cloud.

Following on from the Cloud Service Procurement framework launched last year, The Scottish Government Digital Directorate has set up a Cloud Centre of Excellence (CCoE) and a Cloud Community. Providing thought leadership and guidance to Scottish public sector organisations as they plan, progress and manage their adoption of cloud services.

With the introduction of a ‘Cloud First’ approach, organisations are now expected to adopt a public-cloud delivery model for user-focused services, whether introducing new services or updating existing ones.

While cloud has incredible potential, its implementation can be challenging. In fact, during a Public-Sector Cloud Community meet-up earlies this year, stakeholders highlighted that some organisations lacked clear cloud strategies, and many services are not currently being delivered by cloud.
