Mundana Companhia - The Duel
Adapted from the Chekhov story, this surprising, almost hallucinogenic tale is set by the baking Black Sea where tension arises between a Russian romantic hero and a social Darwinist. Refined in its simplicity and full of symbolism, it features live music and vigorous physicality.
Although situated in Russia two centuries ago, the play says a lot about our times. The story, disquieting and surprising, presents conflicting points of view: on one side a man in existential crisis, on the other, a determined and confident scientist. The struggle between these two antagonistic viewpoints in a peripheral society offers a distorted mirror of the Russian and European metropolis. www.mundanacompanhia.com
